Transcreation

If you need to translate advertising or marketing copy from English to Spanish or vice versa, this is what we call “transcreation” or, somewhat redundantly, “creative translation.”

In the transcreation process, the original text serves as a guideline.Although it’s a key factor, it is by no means definitive. Creative translation seeks to reproduce the persuasiveness and emotional impact of the original text even if this means departing from its literal message.

My process in this case is as follows:

  • Analyzing the briefing creative brief to gain a deeper understanding of the client, the product or service they’re promoting, their target market, etc.
  • Literal translation of the copy to serve as a rough draft and help identify shortcomings, opportunities, and potential mix-ups.
  • Drafting a proposal for creative translation, offering one or more alternative solutions for those points where the translation must deviate from the original text and explaining the pros and cons of each suggestion.

I follow this same process in translating and adapting other creative texts such as song lyrics or poems.

Subtitling

If you're in the midst of producing a documentary, film, or corporate video, and need a reliable professional to add Spanish or English subtitles with all the care and attention your project deserves, you can count on me.

Whether you need to subtitle footage before taking it into the editing room or are looking for someone to add Spanish or English subtitles to your final cut, I have all the tools and experience necessary to handle the entire subtitling process from start to finish:

  • Spotting or creating a template, indicating the in and out points for each subtitle.
  • Transcribing the original dialogue, voice-over, or interventions in English or Spanish—with or without a script.
  • Translating subtitles from English to Spanish or vice versa.
  • Delivering the final subtitle file in the required format —SRT, TXT, STL, etc.— or creating a video file with burned-in subtitles if necessary.

I can also do a quality check if you have doubts about the existing subtitles for your film.
